Dr. James Mariano

Cardiac Electrophysiologist

This quote perfectly summarizes my philosophy of care: “The practice of medicine is an art, not a trade; A calling, not a business; A calling in which your heart will be exercised equally with your head.” ~ Sir William Osler

My practice focuses on the evaluation and treatment of heart rhythm disorders. It is a highly technical field of cardiology, but I am mindful that my calling goes beyond solving difficult medical problems.

In addition to addressing the underlying heart problem, during my visits with patients I try to discover and address any fears or frustrations they may have related to their heart condition. I enjoy getting to know my patients as people.

I am board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Cardiac Electrophysiology. I am a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and a Fellow of the Heart Rhythm Society (FHRS).

I was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota but raised in the Philippines. I returned to Minnesota when I turned 17 and have been a Midwesterner ever since. I met my wife, Dr. Sonya Eiben, while we were completing our training at the University of Iowa. Sonya and I have two college-aged children. In my spare time, I enjoy biking and reading.

Fun note: I am a competitive chess player!
